If one day you want to escape the noise and chaos of the city and go somewhere that calms your heart, all you need to do is search for Esfahak Village.
Esfahak is a village in the heart of the desert and mountains of South Khorasan; a place where silence heals and time moves more slowly.
Esfahak; A Village That Went Global
On November 13, 2024, Esfahak Village was officially recognized by the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) as one of the Best Tourism Villages in the World.
This event turned Esfahak from a local and little-known destination into a bright point on the global tourism map.
Adobe Architecture and Life from the Heart of History
When you enter Esfahak, it feels like stepping into an old movie;
narrow alleys, adobe walls, houses that still carry the marks of the 1978 earthquake, yet have come back to life with the love of the people.
The villagers, with their own hands:
- restored the houses
- revived the qanats
- and brought life back to Esfahak
The underground qanats are still active after nearly 400 years, showing a living connection between past and present.
Esfahak Nights; A Concert of Stars
Esfahak’s nights, with clear skies and no light pollution, are unforgettable.
It feels as if the stars are performing a concert just for you.
If you are interested in:
- sky observation
- seeing the Milky Way
- astrophotography and timelapse
do not miss Esfahak’s local observatory.

Orange Blossoms and the Saffron Carpet of the Desert
With the arrival of spring, the orange groves around Esfahak turn into a living painting.
White and pink blossoms fill the air with fragrance from mid-May to late June.
Nearby, you can see saffron fields that in autumn cover the desert land like red velvet blankets.
From late October to early November, farmers pick the purple saffron flowers by hand early in the morning;
this manual work is why saffron is called red gold.
Kal Jeni; Deep Silence Near Esfahak
If you travel to Esfahak, be sure to visit Kal Jeni as well.
This fascinating gorge is about 70 kilometers away from Esfahak.
Kal Jeni is:
- a narrow canyon with tall walls
- filled with deep, eerie silence
- an experience that makes you feel like the only person on Earth
